My Story

Hello, I'm Tracie (Trae) McGovern, and I'm honored to share my journey with you. As a former Matilda and lifelong advocate for women's sports, my story is one of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for women's sport.

From an early age, I was captivated by the world of sports. Growing up, I spent countless hours on the field, driven by the dream of one day representing Australia. That dream became a reality when I was selected into the Matilda's, Australia's national women's football team in 1997. The experiences, challenges, and triumphs I encountered as an elite athlete shaped me in profound ways, instilling a relentless dedication to the advancement of women's sports.

After sustaining an injury leading into the Sydney 2000 Olympics and retiring from professional football, I found myself reflecting on the impact sports had on my life. I realized that my journey wasn't just about personal achievements; it was about paving the way for future generations of female athletes. This realization led to the founding of The Australian Sportswoman in 2016, a platform aimed at promoting our Australian female athletes and sports teams.

But my vision didn't stop there. I wanted to blend my passion for sports with another love of mine: fashion. Through an ambassadorship with Classic Sportswear and Dina Uniforms, leading brands in sports and corporate wear, together we are launching a Classic Women's Core Range and our very own look #sportscorp. This initiative brings together functionality, class and style, allowing fans to attend matches and events supporting their team with a touch of elegance and comfort.

The Australian Sportswoman is more than just a platform; it's a community. It's a place where fans can connect with their favorite athletes, stay informed about the latest in women's sports, and draw inspiration from the stories of trailblazing women. It's also a mentorship hub where young aspiring female athletes can find guidance and encouragement to pursue their dreams.

My journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to support and uplift the amazing sportswomen of Australia.
